Acne Treatment Harmones

Hormonal acne in healthy women responds to a wide variety of acne treatment products.

A thorough study of the patient's medical history to go with the conduct of a physical examination and blood testing is useful as it is necessary.

At best, the close supervision of a qualified and trained dermatologist who will select the treatment best suited to the needs of the patient is obligatory.

Hormonal acne treatment is intended for women who may consider an acne alternative treatment if the acne condition may prove resistant to traditional acne and acne popular treatments.

Hormonal acne skin treatment options include oral contraceptive pills, oral corticosteroids (anti-inflammatories), and anti-androgens. Estrogen-progestin combinations are present in Oral contraceptive pills.  The acne removal treatment formulation alter female hormone patterns specifically the production of androgens.

Low dosages of oral contraceptives have long been part of the dermatologist's treatment regimen.  There are also approved oral contraceptives formulated to treat mild to moderate breakouts. Even, oral contraceptives offer a convenient option for women who have no plans of getting pregnant.

They can choose to retain the treatment for extended periods of time to control hormonal acne.  Prominent side-effects, which can differ depending on the condition of the patient's overall health status, include nausea, weight gain, menstrual spotting and breast tenderness. If these are found intolerable, a homeopathic acne treatment is the next best option.

In severe acne cases, oral corticosteroids can be particularly effective by suppressing inflammations.

Oral corticosteroids are anti-inflammatory drugs akin in structure to some of the substances secreted by the adrenal glands.

When a woman's adrenal glands are overactive in producing the male hormone androgen, Prednisone and Dexamethasone can be prescribed.

Side effects of oral corticosteroids can include bone thinning and more noticeably, weight gain.

Anti-androgens, the third type of hormonal treatment, are a class of drugs that works on both the production and delivery mechanisms of male/female hormone imbalance, particularly to: reduce androgen production in a woman's ovaries and adrenal glands, and block androgen reception by cells in the hair follicles.

By using anti-androgens spironolactone or the less common flutamide, excess androgen available in the hair follicle is greatly reduced subsequently cutting off production at its source.  Irregular periods and breast tenderness are cited side effects but these may be eased by taking the anti-androgen in combination with an oral contraceptive.
