Blue Light Therapy

Blue light therapy is an acne removal treatment developed to treat a variety of conditions including dark spots on the face melasma or pregnancy mask, freckles and hyper pigmentation, varicose veins, spider veins and rosacea type of acne.

The goal is to provide an acne alternative treatment with great results without the downtime or discomfort of conventional therapies.

The acne skin treatment procedure starts with an application of a photosensitive gel to the skin.

It is followed by the emission of a series of intense light over the entire face.

The mechanism involves the energy of the light creating micro pores in the capillaries causing them to shrink. This special light (tagged ‘blue’ to distinguish), different than laser acne treatments, emits light over many wavelengths allowing the light to penetrate to all the levels of the skin where abnormal easily dilated vessels can be found. This process is repeated in three to four week intervals.

With blue light therapy, any colored materials on the surface of the skin including tiny capillaries are heated and the colors are either absorbed or evaporated. Indications include generalized redness on the skin, broken capillaries, pregnancy mask, discolorations, shallow acne scars, sun spots, sun damage, freckles, dark circles under the eyes, hyper pigmentation and pigmentation problems.

Blue light therapy may not be the best acne doctor medicine available but it is considered very safe and is the recommended treatment for those do not wish to have a long procedure or a prolonged downtime.

Most patients can actually return to work the same day or the following day after the treatment. Expected consequences include a transient pigmentation change, swelling, and discomfort in the treated area may be expected.

Optimal results are guaranteed with a thorough evaluation by the treating physician, who at best should be qualified and skilled to handle the job.

Nevertheless, the result is a glowing, smooth, blush-free skin with finer lines and more youthful appearing skin.
