Minocycline and its Side-Effects
Minocycline
is antibiotic medication used to treat a wide variety
of bacterial infections including acne.
Although
it is not fully known how minocycline kills the acne
bacteria, the visible results are evident in the
reduction of redness, swelling and tenderness of
pimples.
Antibiotics, one of the
best acne doctor medicines, are known to work best
when the amount of medicine in the body is kept at
a constant level.
This is done by taking the antibiotic
acne treatment products at evenly spaced intervals
throughout the day and night.

With minocycline,
recommended usual starting dose is 50 to 100 mg twice
a day. Acne symptoms may start to improve before the
infection is completely treated.
That is why, generally, patients are required
to take all of the minocycline that has been prescribed
even if they begin to feel better.
Also, stopping any
medication of acne removal treatment early may allow bacteria
to continue to grow resulting in a relapse of the infection.
Minocycline is not suggested to be taken by persons who have kidney or liver
disease. Pregnant women are also discouraged as it may affect bone and
tooth development in the developing baby.

|
When breastfeeding, minocycline
is likely to pass into breast milk and may affect
bone and tooth development in a nursing infant.
There
are acne alternative treatments such as natural herbal
acne treatment available if a person's condition
is one of the aforementioned.
Taking minocycline as a sustained-release
antibiotic acne skin treatment may result in the following
major side effects: allergic reaction like swelling
of lips, face, or tongue and difficulty in breathing;
severe headache; changes in vision; confused feelings;
liver damage including yellowing of the skin or eyes,
nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort; unusual bleeding
or bruising; |
severe fatigue; blood problems; fever; itching
or genital sores; and, tooth discoloration. Less serious
side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or
decreased appetite; dizziness or lightheadedness; sensitivity
to the sun; Dark "furry" tongue,
black tongue, or swollen tongue; vaginal yeast infection;
and, skin pigmentation changes.
Immediate medical attention should be sought at once if any of said side effects of minocycline occurs.
